One way to do research is to break down the components involved in information problem-solving. Several years ago, Mike Eisenberg and Bob Berkowitz developed a research process called The Big6TM which guides students through information problem-solving and along the way provides a basic framework for teaching and promoting information literacy. Several pages of helpful sites — educational games, rubrics, informational sites, lesson plan sites, templates, etc. Check it out. You will have to set up your own account (it’s free; see Ms. Glenn for the initial setup password). Once you have your account set up, you can select fantastic educational videos to show in your classrooms. Be sure to download them to your computer — don’t try to use the streaming videos. They are jumpy and erratic and can’t be used during End of Course testing. Websites need to be evaluated. Try this handy tool. Filamentality is an Interactive Website that guides you through creating five different types of Web pages and then posts it right on the Internet. Try making a Hotlist, Multimedia Scrapbook, Subject Sampler, Treasure Hunt, or WebQuest. Create one or collect all five |
