To go or not to go (home) |
|
Every year, approximately 80 library books are lost by 2nd through 5th grade students whose parents do not pay for the books. The replacement cost for 80 library books is about $1200. The annual state library book allotment for Midway last year was less than $1000. At this rate, it won’t take long to destroy our awesome collection unless we work together to maintain it. First graders are not ready to assume the responsibility of taking library books home. Their teachers keep their books in the classrooms as part of their classroom libraries. If you have found that your students have a tendency to “lose” library books when they take them home, perhaps you could employ the same strategy: keep your students’ library books in your classrooms to enhance your classroom library. Less books going home equates to less books lost! It is library policy that students with an overdue book do not check out any MORE books until the overdue book is returned or paid for. Caddo librarians and Shreve Memorial Library collaborate to encourage each second-grade student in Caddo Parish to acquire a public library card. Encourage your students to visit the public library as well as our school library. Ground has been broken and construction is beginning on our new neighborhood branch of Shreve Memorial Library system! |
