About the Librarian:

I am the proud mother of one daughter who is an attorney in Austin, Texas. Her husband is a law student at the University of Texas.

I am also the proud mother of one son who is a manager/trainer for a heavy equipment manufacturing and service company in Lubbock, Texas.  He will be married on April 29, 2006. His fiancé works for Social Services in Lubbock.

I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education with a minor in mathematics from Texas Tech University in 1972. I taught elementary school in Texas for 6 years before moving to Louisiana in 1985.  I earned my Masters Degree from LSU-S in 1987 and completed my certification to be a school librarian in 1992.

I taught 6th grade Social Studies, Math and English at Caddo Middle Magnet until 1994. My first assignment as a librarian was at Cherokee Park Elementary School from 1994-2001. When Midway Middle School became an elementary professional development school, I saw it as a tremendous opportunity for career advancement and job satisfaction. It has exceeded my wildest dreams.

In November 2004, I achieved NBPTS (National Board of Professional Teaching Standards) certification as a library/media specialist, along with my colleague and friend, Ginger Williams.

What takes up most of my free time these days is my 10 month-old Scottie puppy, Molly Rose.

About the Library

Midway Elementary PDS opened in the fall of 2001 on the campus of the former Midway Middle School. The conversion was completed with lots of hard work and creativity.

Our library books came from the five schools that sent us students. The average copyright date of the books in our library collection in 2001-2002 was 1968.  Four years later, thanks in large part to several 8g competitive grants I have written, the average copyright date of our books for the 2005-2006 school year is 1992.  It is an awesome collection!
